Giorgi Gigauri is serving as the Chief of Mission of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in Bangladesh since May 2018. He is the Co-Chair of the Strategic Executive Group of the Rohingya refugee response and the Coordinator of the UN Migration Network in Bangladesh.

Prior to his current appointment he served as the IOM Chief of Mission in Papua New Guinea, working on humanitarian emergencies, peacebuilding & community stabilization, and migration management.

He was also the IOM Deputy Chief of Mission in Indonesia, overseeing a programme portfolio, which included migrant protection, humanitarian assistance, migration governance and development.

Previous postings with IOM include Head of Programme Support in Ukraine, Project Development Officer in Moldova, and research support at the Regional Office in Austria. He has also led numerous emergency response surge teams in Asia-Pacific region.

Giorgi is a national of Georgia and holds a Master’s degree from the University of Oxford, Bachelor’s degree from the University of Warwick, and a PhD from The Grigol Robakidze University. He speaks Georgian, Ukrainian, Russian and English.
