Dhaka, 11 November 2024: The Government of Bangladesh inaugurated opened the Probashi Lounge at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport to honor Bangladeshi migrant workers established with the support of IOM- UN Migration. Chief Advisor Dr. Yunus inaugurated the lounge with senior officials from the Ministry of Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment (MoEWOE) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and IOM.

Deputy  Chief of Mission Fathima Nusrath Ghazzali of IOM Bangladesh shared that the UN agency has sponsored the lounge in an effort to assist the Bangladeshi migrant workers. "This is an initiative of the honourable Chief Adviser. We are happy to support this initiative," she said, adding the IOM is also sponsoring nearly 100 volunteers to help the migrants at the airport.

“This space provides a dignified experience for our expatriates, who greatly contribute to both their families and our nation's economy,” noted Ruhul Amin, Secretary of MoEWOE.

The Probashi Lounge symbolizes the nation's appreciation for the sacrifices and contributions of Bangladeshi expatriates. It is a step forward in ensuring that the experiences of migrant workers are recognized and enhanced. The Government of Bangladesh and IOM will continue to support initiatives that uplift the dignity and welfare of those who work tirelessly abroad.
